London Buses route 140 is a Transport for London contracted bus route in London, England. Running between Harrow Weald and Heathrow Airport Central bus station, it is operated by Metroline. ==History== Route 140, at its inception, followed a very different route to the one it does today. Starting from Hayes Bourne Avenue, it followed today's U4 to Hayes, then its current route as far as Harrow, then followed what is now route 114 via Kenton and Queensbury and finished at Mill Hill Broadway. On 4 May 1955 the section between Hayes Bourne Avenue and Hayes station was extended via Harlington High Street and Harlington Corner to terminate at London Airport Central. In 1967 route 140 was extended from Mill Hill Broadway to Page Street (further extended to Mill Hill East in 1968) for school journeys. In 1983 the Harrow and Mill Hill section was withdrawn and replaced by route 114 and two years later 140 was rerouted via the current route 340 to Edgware station. The section between Edgware and Harrow Weald was withdrawn and replaced by route 340 in 1987. Route 140 was the fourth-last bus route in London to use AEC Regent III RT buses, which were replaced by AEC Routemasters in July 1978. The route became one-person operated in 1983. In 2000, Heathrow was given more night-time transport links, and route 140 was supplemented by night service N140.
